Star Wars: Rogue One cast photo revealed

It hasn't come out yet the long-waited Force Awakens, Disney has already start presenting fans with a picture of the cast of the Star Wars anthology film, Rogue One.

The main cast has been revealed, with no roles publicly known. The main character will be Felicity Stones with an unknown role, although there is speculation that it may be the rebel Bria Tharen, that is the leader of the Red Hand Squadron, team that steals the Death Star plans in Toprawa battle, in the Extended Universe of Star Wars (now called Legends, and not considered Canon anymore). The rest of the cast is made up of Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal, Casino Royale), Diego Luna (Milk, Killing Them Softly), Ben Mendelsohn (Bloodline, Mississippi Grind), Donnie Yen (Ip Man, Blade II), Jiang Wen (Let the Bullets Fly, Devils on the Doorstep), Forest Whitaker (The Butler, The Last King of Scotland), Alan Tudyk (Con Man, Firefly) and Riz Ahmed (Nightcrawler, Four Lions).

"Rogue One takes place before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope and will be a departure from the saga films but have elements that are familiar to the Star Wars universe," says Kennedy, the producer. "It goes into new territory, exploring the galactic struggle from a ground-war perspective while maintaining that essential Star Wars feel that fans have come to know. Gareth is such an innovative director and I’m so excited to be working with him and the extraordinary ensemble cast he’s selected for Rogue One."

It was also revealed a new logo for the film, but information about details like if Gareth Edwards will be based on some arc of Legends, or will reinvent the saga as J. J. Abrams, have not yet been revealed.

Star Wars: Rogue One is schedule to hit theaters December 16, 2016 (December 15, in Portugal).
